SnowWall for macOS
Something not working, or a question the answers below don't cover? Write to ramiz161@icloud.com. A real person reads every message. It helps to include your macOS version and which Mac you have.
Getting started
I opened SnowWall and nothing appeared
SnowWall has no window or Dock icon of its own. It lives in the menu bar as a snowflake at the top of the screen. If you can't see it:
- On a Mac with a notch, the menu bar may be too full to show it. Quit an app that also sits in the menu bar and look again.
- Open System Settings, go to Menu Bar, and make sure SnowWall is allowed to appear.
How do I pause the snow?
Click the snowflake in the menu bar and choose Pause Snow. While the menu is open, ⌘P does the same. The snowflake is struck through while paused.
Where are the settings?
Click the snowflake and choose Settings…, or press ⌘, while the menu is open.
Can SnowWall start when I log in?
Yes. In Settings, open General and turn on Launch at Login. If macOS asks you to approve it, SnowWall shows a button that takes you to the right place in System Settings.
Snow and your Mac
Will it slow my Mac down or drain the battery?
SnowWall draws on the graphics processor while it runs, so it uses some energy. It pauses when the display sleeps and drops to 30 frames a second in Low Power Mode or when the Mac is running hot. To use less, choose Battery Saver under Appearance → Quality, or lower the snowflake count.
Can the snow stay behind my windows?
Yes. In Settings, open Interaction and turn on Keep Snow Behind Windows. The snow then falls between your wallpaper and your desktop icons.
I use Reduce Motion
When Reduce Motion is on in System Settings, SnowWall stops the snow by default. You can choose to slow it down instead, or to ignore the setting, under Physics → Accessibility.
Why doesn't SnowWall ask for any permissions?
It doesn't need them. It draws over the desktop without reading what is on screen. If macOS ever asks you to give SnowWall screen recording or accessibility access, don't grant it, and please let us know.
SnowWall Pro
What does Pro include?
Every effect beyond Snowfall and Rain, Ambient Mode, the visual effects, Ultra quality, calendar events and seasonal scheduling, and unlimited saved presets. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
I bought Pro, but it isn't unlocked
Open the SnowWall Pro window from the menu and click Restore Purchase. Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you bought it with. Restoring never charges you again.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something is wrong with the app, we'd still like to hear about it.
Removing SnowWall
Quit it from the menu, then drag SnowWall from Applications to the Trash. Its settings
live in ~/Library/Containers/com.kichibekov-ramiz.snowwall. Delete that folder
too if you want nothing left behind.
